Came across the blog of Malcolm Gladwell whose books ‘Tipping Point’ and ‘Blink’ are a huge success. Still not finished with ‘Blink’, but I find it pretty intriguing, more so because Gutfeel is the core concept, which has influenced the author to come up with a book on the same. Of whatever, I have read of Blink it talks about the snap decisions we take in our personal and professional lives. Interestingly, if we sit back and analyze (to bring in some logic here) most of these decisions are correct, which means that we don’t repent later.

Gladwell beautifully illustrates the theory of ‘Thin Slicing’ that each one of us uses to arrive at most of our decisions and later we plan out the real data to back it up. Gladwell envisions his book to help create a different and better world, hoping to change the way wars are fought, the kind of products that are made, the way police officers are trained, marriages are counseled, job interviews are conducted and so on. I doubt that in near future there would be any further emphasis on the blink of the eye vis-à-vis. rational analysis. I wish things could change like that. Meanwhile, I get back to reading the book. Way to go Mr. Gladwell!!!
