Vague thoughts…

Sheena Iyengar

Sheena Iyengar

Yesterday, read an article about Sheena Iyengar, who is blind by birth but has come up with a book. The interviewer was asking different types of  questions, but this lady stuck to her stance. An inpiring story I must say. Am looking forward to purchase the book “Art of Choosing”. I simply liked her answer when being asked why did she take up her husband’s name as surname. All she said was that it was a politically correct choice!

For countries, shopping is no big deal… anyone can do it but in India, we

An experience today… opinions requested…

Went to local Big Bazaar (supermarket) today for grocery shopping. I like shopping so I always look forward to it whether it is grocery, clothes, shoes, bags, and so on. But today at BB, a salesman selling Active brand of juices stopped me midway and asked me to taste the juice and provide some feedback. I was a bit annoyed as I was busy looking at apples, oranges, maggi, milk, oil, wheat flour and so on… But politely, I said that I do not wish to taste but if he wishes, I can provide the feedback. A bit relieved, the salesman gave me the feedback form and I had to write my name and phone number. Excitedly, I started to write but he interrupted and told me that madam, you if you give the phone number, you will receive smses from Bipasha Basu(she is a Bollywood celebrity) or someone on her behalf…

Random thoughts – 3

Happy Deepawali to everyone…this Diwali has been very special for me because of the fact that it was my daughter’s first Diwali and as we consider her as our little Laxmi it makes the festival even more special…She is the light of our lives and i am having the time of my life with her. Sometimes i feel that this phase of my life is the happiest and this is what i was looking forward to all these years…when she smiles on seeing me, i feel like the most important person in the whole world!! What an awesome feeling it is – to be needed – only a mom can understand it in true sense of the word. I had kept a babysitter for her but recently fired her because i felt it was the right time i should take over as i would be visiting my parents soon and don’t want to feel handicapped then. I am sooo looking forward to visiting my parents after so long. I couldn’t even attend my brother’s marriage due to my pregnancy complications last year and felt very sad at that time. Just went out today to shop a little, felt good as always but having a terrible headache, maybe it was the sun. These days roaming around in Mumbai is not so safe thanks to Mr. Raj Thackery who is taking political advantage of the North Indian and Maharashtrian divide…as if the sinking stock markets were not enough…one has to deal with this stupid situation too…and i have to also deal with my scared dog who doesn’t want to leave my side even for a second because of the fire crackers making his life hell since the last few days…on the movie front i am looking forward to see Fashion by Madhur Bhandarkar, won’t be allowed to see KarZZZ because hubby dear can’t stand Himesh bhai ;) he promptly changes the channel when he appears on the screen with his trademark nasal voice…but i just can’t get over Tandoori Nights, it is too catchy to be ignored…even my daughter likes it when i sing it to her with rolling hands!

Random thoughts 2

We were using inCable for the past two years without any complaint but for the last couple of months it was really painful to watch TV in the real sense. The reception was poor and the voice cracked so much that the audio was hardly audible. It reached to its extreme slowly bit by bit so for so many days we were just hoping that it would improve on its own. The birth of my daughter made TV watching a rare event so nobody bothered to focus on getting it repaired. But as the things started settling and i began to watch TV more frequently though randomly, the desire to watch flawless reception on the television returned, the main motivation being IPL matches! :) I called up the incable helpdesk and they tried solving my problem but it didn’t work!!! So we started searching for an alternate cable network. My hubby works in a tata group company and Tatasky was the obvious choice. Way back when we shifted to Mumbai and wanted a cable connection, we had inquired about Tatasky but at that time there were some technical shortfalls due to which it could not be installed. It has been over ten days now and i am very pleased at the reception and quality of service offered by Tatasky. First and foremost, everything is online, you can have your own account on the tatasky website www.tatasky.com through which you can manage the transactions. This makes life so much easier for tech savvy people like us. I dread paying bills to a stinking cablewallah who might press your doorbell at any point of time. Secondly, the installation was hassle free. The digi-com as they call it arrived through courier and two people came to install it one day after. Installation took 15-20 mins and the guy explained the operational aspect to me as i was not very keen on reading the user manual on my own due to paucity of time. There is a 24 hour help channel in which a young kid and her aunt explain in detail how tatasky works. I liked the way the channels are organized and divided into various categories. Another interesting feature is showcase. Through showcase, you can order movies online for an additional cost of Rs. 75 each. There are 3-4 movies which are showcased and you have the option to choose one of them. The movie you choose will be available to you till midnight and will be telecast on different channels at pre-defined intervals, making it easier to catch up in case you missed a portion. With every new connection, you get a showcase free, and i took the pleasure of watching my free showcase yesterday, the movie being Dhram about which i plan to talk in my next post. Keep reading!!!

My random thoughts – Part 1

I have to let my thoughts out! This time it is nothing specific but my daily experiences. So a word of caution! Think twice before you proceed. It is for my own satisfaction that I blog, now it is far more evident than ever. :) So people, I have been at home for quite a while now and seem to have become a couch potato. Apart from watching cricket matches which I love, there are host of other programmes which I watch sometimes quite intently and sometimes only because I don’t feel like doing anything else. So the saas bahu serial becomes my last resort. Another factor in increased viewing of these sometimes serials is the continual stay of relatives at home. So sometimes though not always I have to obediently watch a ‘Mayeka’ or ‘Parivaar’ or ‘Saat Phere’ on Zee just to give them a company and sometimes a ‘Virrudh’ which I like for some strong performances though somewhat wasted ones. Then the channels are replete with reality shows like Indian Idol, Sa Re Ga Ma which become a little interesting when judjes are fighting just for the sake of increasing the TRP’s. I do watch them. But i will talk about them in my next post.
