My random thoughts – Part 1
I have to let my thoughts out! This time it is nothing specific but my daily experiences. So a word of caution! Think twice before you proceed. It is for my own satisfaction that I blog, now it is far more evident than ever.
So people, I have been at home for quite a while now and seem to have become a couch potato. Apart from watching cricket matches which I love, there are host of other programmes which I watch sometimes quite intently and sometimes only because I don’t feel like doing anything else. So the saas bahu serial becomes my last resort. Another factor in increased viewing of these sometimes serials is the continual stay of relatives at home. So sometimes though not always I have to obediently watch a ‘Mayeka’ or ‘Parivaar’ or ‘Saat Phere’ on Zee just to give them a company and sometimes a ‘Virrudh’ which I like for some strong performances though somewhat wasted ones. Then the channels are replete with reality shows like Indian Idol, Sa Re Ga Ma which become a little interesting when judjes are fighting just for the sake of increasing the TRP’s. I do watch them. But i will talk about them in my next post.
The latest on my hit list are two serials. ‘Saath Phere’ being telecast on Zee and ‘Amber Dhara’ on Sony. The protagonist of Saath Phere, Saloni, the dusky bahu who sailed across all odds to secure a respectable place in the family is now taking a U turn on her values. She was the one who was always shown solving others’ problems and never compromising on the values. She did not care for herself or her career all this while. But suddenly her desire to be someone and have an identity of her own surfaces when she gets pregnant. I found the storyline acceptable till this point. But when her urge to become a famous singer makes her talk to her husband about aborting the pregnancy, that is what i found quite surprising indeed! How can a director do this to the story? Instead of gaining TRPs s/he might lose them. This is the same Saloni who was all gutso about proving that her sister in law Pia had been raped by a person who later married Pia. If she can take such a strong step against rape why is she taking about abortion? Contradictory viewpoints and values in a matter of a month. talk of women lib and saving the unborn girl child. Funny story… I have decided not to watch it further… my mind goes into a regressive mode as I cant just admire the dresses and houses of these people!
Next in line is ‘Amber Dhara’! What a beautiful start to the serial…At first I thought it is going to be a sure fire hit. It had a different storyline and started off with a story of two conjoined twins. The little girls were fabulous and their mother’s acting superb! I still can’t forget the scene when their mom wants them to take part in the school race and in spite of all being made fun of; they manage to finish the race. The words of their mother ‘You need not win girls, but you have to reach the finish line and remember this throughout your life.’ Echoed in their ears and made them reach the finish line. Quite impressive! But of late the serial has deteriorated and I am sure the TRP’s will fall soon. Why? Beacause of they poor direction…They have run to Mumbai in a hope to become famous and prove to the world that they are not abnormal, but the make up artist and the man who lured them to Bombay give them such a disgusting look that all they get is rotten eggs and tomatoes on the stage. How can such intelligent girls did not even bother to look at themselves in the mirror to see how funny they were looking? And if the logic is that they were from small town and did not understand things once they landed in Mumbai, I would say it is quite illogical. Do people know that Priyanka Chopra is from a small town Bareilly or Meerut, I don’t remember. But that is beyond the point. That Amitabh Bacchhan is from Allahabad and there are numerous other examples… So these inexplicable twist and turns in prime time serials are beyond my comprehension and for sure hurt the sensibilities of a viewer. I have a lot on my mind but will jot it down in my next post. Have some work to do!

I’m also a big couch potato. And manage to have interest in all these saas bahu serials. Though being out of India, their viewing has reduced,
But v do manage to find the episodes on P2P sites on net. And my fav as of now is: Baa Bahu aur Baby.
The story is simple and revolves around a gujarati family. Actually the ideals being advocated in the serial go with my philosophy of life, being idealistic.
Its a b’ful serial, so to say…
Good info on Saat Phere, I had not watched it for long…
Hv a gr8 time watching…
