Obama household gets a new first dog ‘Bo’

boWhen the news is about a dog and that too in the household of the President of America, i couldn’t resist putting down some words of my own. It is said that this news was a closely guarded secret and it took a lot of time to convince the Obamas that the six month old Portuguese Water Dog will be the best bet for them. The dog was gifted to the first family by Senator Edward Kennedy.

Being a dog owner myself, i know what ruckus an untrained dog can create in the household (in case you are unaware of this, take a peek into the new Jennifer Aniston movie Marley and Me, but chances are that you will end up loving the dog) and hence the dog has had his obedience training before entering the Obama household. This dog is also known to shed less hairs and therefore it is another plus point. The Obamas had to be very careful about their choice as their younger daughter Malia has some allergy issues.

It is said that the dog will be named Bo. They have chosen this name because Michelle Obama’s father was nicknamed “Diddley” after the blues musician Bo Diddley. However, it is interesting to note that BO are the initials of the president himself. But if he can become the president of USA with a name ‘Obama’ which rhymes with Osama, then keeping a dog with his name initials will not be an issue. In fact, in his book, The Audacity of Hope, he has remarked that when he started campaigning, then some people suggested that he should change his name as it wont work. But it worked. More so because of his values. But as they say whats in a name? It depends on the type of person you are. Your name is one thing you can’t choose on your own. And the same applies to a dog too!

Hope the new dog adjusts well to the first family and vice versa.
