Sheena Iyengar

Sheena Iyengar

Yesterday, read an article about Sheena Iyengar, who is blind by birth but has come up with a book. The interviewer was asking different types of  questions, but this lady stuck to her stance. An inpiring story I must say. Am looking forward to purchase the book “Art of Choosing”. I simply liked her answer when being asked why did she take up her husband’s name as surname. All she said was that it was a politically correct choice!

For countries, shopping is no big deal… anyone can do it but in India, we

usually learn to do it in groups esp. women. I remember, it was Akshya Trithiya time and I wanted to purchase some gold. Though I was slowly trying to understand the calculations. An elderly lady was sitting next to me and pat came the advice – Beta, aapko kisi ke saath aana chaiye tha..  but for me it was no big deal as I have come over to the shop many a times with hubby and knew most of the staff there. I cudn’t backchat because there was no one with her too!

Amex card

Amex card

Then I am totally sick of American Express credit cards!!!#$%^$ Big Bazaar (local grocery store) doesn’t accept it but thankfully I have a Master card which works [sigh].. On inquiring from a nearby clothing store cum boutique, that person told me that the commission they received from Amex is too low and their cheque is cleared after 10 days. I will have to return the card to hubby as soon as I get some time.

Then the haircut. Mine that is – Suddenly started dreaming of myself as cool..

New Haircat

New Haircat

I reached quite early and only some people were there. I had washed my hair after swimming round, but the guys insisted that you better go for some high end product. So another boy started massaging my head and I lost it.. told him to back out immediately. As I got my hair styled from a senior hair stylist, so I had to sheel out almost Rs. 900!

DSC00007Last but not the least, I don’t know how to deal with maids. But if you are too polite and caring, they will soon start to think that it’s their house, thier child. Yesterday afternoon I cooked some semolina and both of them looked stunned. One of them also suggested me to take some rest. I took up a book, but my daughter came to me and said ‘What are you doing’ ‘Reading book’ – me too. And I just couldn’t say no. Now poor Chetan bhagat’s “Two states” will be difficult to read.

Daughter’s Jumbo kids is a nice playschool, and I found the teachers very friendly. It was a rhyming “Sing along with mamma” session in which the teachers and students, and parents would sing the rhymes. I was pretty amazed to see eva reciting most of the rhymes, though she doesn’t sing them at home. Her English fav is “Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall” and “Itsy bitsy spider’. Hindi ones are “Chanda mama door ke” and “Pappa jaldi aa jaana”. Then she ate her lunch on her own in spite of the huge drama and say after 40-45 mins, she picks up her bag and orders me maamma “Let’s go”! I am again stunned but don’t want to go against her wishes at the toddler stage. We climb the car but my kid has her seat fixed. I have to travel to the other end to enter the car…As Bacchi Karkaria says – Such is life dearies. :-)
